About Us: At North Iowa Community Action Organization, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children and families through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Our goal is to promote the well-being, growth, and development of young children, and we are looking for a passionate and dedicated Cook to join our team!
Position Overview: We are seeking a Kitchen Assistant for the 2025-2026 school year to assist the cook with preparation of nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate meals for children in our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. The ideal candidate will have a passion for working with children, a strong understanding of nutrition, and a commitment to food safety and cleanliness.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist the cook with preparation and serving nutritious meals and snacks in accordance with Head Start guidelines and nutrition standards.
- Assist the cook with ensuring all meals are served in a safe and hygienic environment, following all food safety regulations.
- Assist with maintaining cleanliness and organization of the kitchen.
- Assist with food-related activities and teach children about healthy food choices when appropriate.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Previous experience in food preparation or working as a cook, preferably in a child care, school, or early childhood setting.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work with children and create a positive, welcoming mealtime experience.
- Must pass background checks as required by the program.
