About Us: At North Iowa Community Action Organization, we are dedicated to providing a nurturing and supportive environment for children and families through our Head Start and Early Head Start programs. Our goal is to promote the well-being, growth, and development of young children, and we are looking for a passionate and dedicated Cook to join our team!
Position Overview: We are seeking a Cook for the 2026-2027 school year to prepare and serve nutritious, balanced, and age-appropriate meals for children in our Head Start program. As a Cook, you will be preparing breakfast for one Head Start classroom, and traveling to the school district to transport meals for lunch. Any time not spent preparing or cleaning in the kitchen will be spent helping the classroom when and where needed.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare and serve nutritious breakfast in accordance with Head Start guidelines and nutrition standards.
- Transport lunches to and from the school district and serve them to Head Start children.
- Ensure all meals are served in a safe and hygienic environment, following all food safety regulations.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, including proper storage of food and supplies.
- Monitor food inventory and order supplies as needed.
- Collaborate with program staff to ensure that food needs align with the overall goals of the program.
- Foster a positive mealtime environment where children can enjoy healthy foods and develop good eating habits.
- Assist with food-related activities and teach children about healthy food choices when appropriate.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Culinary Arts or related training is a plus.
- Previous experience in food preparation or working as a cook, preferably in a child care, school, or early childhood setting.
- Knowledge of nutrition, food safety, and sanitation standards.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work well as part of a team.
- Ability to work with children and create a positive, welcoming mealtime experience.
- Must pass background checks as required by the program.
